Verona storage box kit

So recently I have been working on quite large project and it has definitely took a lot of hours, paper and glue to complete, but here it is!! I wanted to share with you which products I used as well as some recommendations if you are making this storage unit for yourself at home!

So as you can see this is the Verona storage box kit from tonic studios, I also used the matching deco draw die set and vintage paper pack.

Firstly I painted all of the pieces with some cosmic shimmer paint, I then glued the box together using the included glue pen.

Then I carefully cut pieces of paper to fit each section of the box, and the front of the drawers. The kit does also include layering sheets which made it easy to cut out the paper as you could just cut around the layering piece.

To add some more colour as well as a vintage appeal I used some guilding wax. And to finish off I glazed the whole box and added a layer of glitter around the rims of the boxes. 

Overall I really enjoyed putting this unit together and i'm already enjoying using it!!

Little meow card kit review and Birthday card tutorial

So last week I purchased the little meow card kit,

And since then i have made 2 cards, both very simple, the card in the bottom right was made using items only included in the card kit ( except glue of course! ) , however the card in the top right was made with a few added extras!

Below is how to make the card in the top right corner, so keep reading, I promise its simple!

From the card kit you will need:

- A card
- A envelope
- the pink striped paper
- the die cut sheet with the cat in the teacup ( shown above)

A few extras:

- various glue, I always use a tape pen, double sided tape and foam pads
- white glitter card
- pink organza ribbon

So let's get started!

First cover the card with the striped paper included in the kit, I find it easiest to add a few strips of glue on the first half of the card then stick down the card, fold it over and glue it to the back.

Next cut the glitter card slightly smaller than the card and again glue this on using the tape pen.

Pop out the diet pieces and add some foam pads to the back of each piece.

Now assemble in order, the pieces are numbered on the sheet so if you find it easier, just pop out one piece at a time.

Put the decoupage to one side and glue a stripe of organza ribbon across the centre of the card using the double sided tape. Add a decorative bow, to make the bow I used the mini bow maker from tattered lace.

Now stick on the topper with more foam pads, make sure to but plenty on the back!

Now you can add a stamp inside or leave it blank ready for you to fill out with your own personal message! As you can see in the image above I used the matching tag and added it to a present, so now everything is matching!

LITTLE MEOW REVIEW

I really like this card kit, it's great if your in a rush as it has everything you need to create a cute looking card, or just to embellish other things. You can use everything individually and add your own embellishments and things already in your crafty stash to make it look really professional. The extra toppers and tags mean that you can make even more cards or use them with other things from the little meow range!

Christmas pudding jar topper

Get in the festive sprit with this clay jar topper!

You will need:

- clay ( brown, white, red and green ) i used cloud clay and coloured it using acrylic paint
- a clean jar with a screw on lid

1. make sure your jar is clean 

2. Soften your clay and colour it if necessary, you need a large brown piece to cover the lid and some white, a little green and a little red clay.

3. Mould the brown clay into a dome shape and press onto the lid of the jar, it doesn't need to be perfect as imperfections make it look more realistic!

4. Roll out the remaining white clay

5. Cut out a splatter shape then smooth over the ' pudding ' this forms the ' icing '

6. Cut out some holly leaves from the green clay and make a small ball from the red icing, lithely press them onto the icing, be careful not to squish them though!

Bake or leave to dry then you can add a gloss finish or just leave it!

Fill your jar with christmassy sweets and enjoy!!!

Lovely little hand warmers

These little hand warmers take seconds to make and can use up any old scraps of material and old rice! useful for keeping your hands warm on a cold morning or cool you down in the summer!

All you need is,

- material
- rice
- needle and thread
- pins

So first of all you will need a template, you can chose whichever shape you want, I decided to go for a heart but squares work well too. To make my template i simply opened up word, created a shape and printed it off! 

You then need to cut two shapes out of any material you wish. You may want to use wadding alongside the outer material to hold in more heat.

Next pin around the outer edge and sew the right sides together, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance and a gap so that you can turn the hand warmer inside out and fill.

After you turn your hand warmer inside out you will need to fill it with rice.

You can use whatever rice you want, lentils also work as a substitute! Use a teaspoon to half fill your hand warmer, this gives it a bit more flexibility in your hands.

You will need to sew up the hole by hand to ensure that you don't get any rice spillages.

Then you are ready to heat up your hand warmer, simply place it on a plate and put it in the microwave for 10-20 seconds, no longer.

Your hand warmer should stay hot for about 5 minutes, you can also use it as an ice pack just place it in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes.

one delayed ( but fun ) project

So now about the delay, I wrote this post but forgot to publish it ( silly me ) haha! But its here now, published and ready for you to read!

This is really simple and is just really a filler until I have a chance to post my nativity scene!

Its a lollipop! unfortunately I don't have an image of the finished product but you can kind of see how it turns out!

This is what you will need, I am using cloud clay but you can used whichever clay you want if you are using fimo or sculpey you don't need to colour the clay yourself!

 split the clay

 

dab with a sharpie to add colour then roll until the colour is well mixed

 

 

roll the white and brown to make the stick

And roll up the red to make the lollipop

And there you have it one simple clay project, you can make it into a pendant or whatever you want!

Last minute DIY back to school ideas

So school is starting again soon if your lucky then you have another week! But there is no excuse for a little last minute crafting!

So first lesson of today is how to jazz up your diary!

If you want to jazz up the year a bit of bling here and there can do the job very nicely!

So you will need

-some bling , I got a giant box of gems from hobby craft for £6.00
- some glue , any old pva or even a glue stick
- a diary , I got mine from Whsmith but any will do!

So this is so simple and quick you'll be wanting to jazz up all of your old notepads!

Just add a dab of glue then place a gem, go for a pattern or just go completely wild it's sure to look great!


Lesson 2 - Make a super stylish book holder, to keep all of your books, paperwork and homework handy!

what you will need

- A4 file , make sure its sturdy, mine's from Hobbycraft for £3.00
- some Decoupage paper, you can get any pattern you want, mine's also from Hobbycraft for £3.79 each
- some Pva or Deco patch glue( which is just pva )
- a brush, you want quite a large one to spread the glue more easily

So this is another very simple but useful craft idea, spread some glue thinly onto your box, place a piece of cut up or ripped up Decoupage paper then cover it over with another thin layer of glue, this gives it a glossy finish! Continue like this overlapping the pieces of paper to ensure that the box is fully covered!

A finishing touch - add a piece of ribbon around the base of the box to class it up or leave it as it is!

Now you have mastered the art of crafting back to school items, have a happy school year!

Easy flower hair clip

This clip is super easy and can be made using the Blossom sugar art moulds and a few sharpies!

So what you will need is:

A clip
Some white clay
Some sharpies or other permanent markers
A mould I used the Blossom sugar art Hydrangea
Some glue

And thats it!

So after you've gathered all of your equipment your ready to start!

1. Take your clay and using the cutter provided in the mould set cut out the flower shape, I used Fimo because of the strong texture, in some of my posts you will see I use cloud clay however it is too stretchy for this and you really need clay that will hold its shape!

2. Place it on the mould, make sure you align the cut out correctly in the mould.

3. PRESS!

4. Now open it up and carefully peel out the flower.

5. Bake or leave to dry, then get creative and decorate with some markers, you could try a funky pattern or just colour it in a block colour!

Finally add a clip using glue then add a coat of gloss to seal in the colour and make it shiny!

Magical fairies

Hi, so as you may have noticed I haven't been keeping up with my latch hooking! But I have got a card for you to have a look at!

So heres the card, it has been created using a series of dies layered on top of each other.

Using a plain pure white card, with a layer of die cut pure white card on top, you will notice on the images below that the pattern frames the edges of the blue card.

After you have die cut the pale blue card add silhouette of a fairy and a border of mushrooms and swirls.

Complete with a matching blue panel with a message, I chose happy birthday but this simple card suits any occasion.

You could make multiple versions in one go to keep to one side when you need a card, then all you need to do is add a sentiment such as thanks or happy anniversary!


Also stamp a few words inside the card if you're not sure what to write out or just for convenience!

So over a year ago I decided to try out latch-hooking, and so brought a latch hook kit from hobbycraft,

(it looks like this)

I decided it was time that I worked towards completing it, so you can track my progress and see how week I am getting on ( or how slow I decide to go) !

Of course I am trying to make some more projects for you and hopefully you'll be seeing some sewing and clay projects this week.

Now to see todays progress,

As you can see before I only had the top of the meerkats head, now he has... eyes, let's see if I can give him some whiskers tomorrow!

Easy clipboard / note holder

This is an easy tutorial of how to make your very own clipboard or note holder! Also it's a great use for your decorative pegs!

So as you can see from the images above you hang it up and the peg easily holds all your paperwork and notes, of course its easy to turn into a clipboard, just don't hang it up!

what you will need

- cardboard
- various coloured card/paper
- a peg
- some ribbon
- some glue

So first of all you need to gather up all of your equipment a[s you can see they are pictured above.

2. Stick the paper onto the cardboard, then carefully cut around the edges removing the excess paper.

3. Stick on a second piece of paper but leave 1/4 of the other coloured paper so that it is still showing.

4. Glue on the peg, you can do this so that it is sticking over the top or is flat against the top of the cardboard.

5. Glue the ribbon across the join of the two pieces of paper.

6. If you wish to hang up the clipboard you will need to glue a small piece of string or ribbon on the back of the cardboard.

7. Place a small piece of paper over the top of where you have glued the ribbon to the back to add a little more strength to the ribbon.

Now you have completed your clipboard, have fun using your clipboard/note holder!!!

Another variation

Retro rose

Hi again now as this post is a two step process I didn't post yesterday as I was working on this for you!

So lets begin first of all you will need to make a mould, I brought some silicone putty from eBay which enables you to make your own moulds!

1. Here is an image of the putty, as you can see it has two parts, part A and Part B.

2. Take a small amount of Part A, don't worry because a little goes a long way!

3. Now take an equal amount of part B.

4. Mix them together, if you are in a hot room or your hands are hot the putty will start to 'melt', but don't worry because this doesn't affect your mould!

5. You will need to wait until it turns a lighter purple and then press it gently over the object you wish to mould, I used a plastic roses which I purchased for £1 along with some other things! Leave it for 5 minutes then remove the object, leave the mould overnight to completely set!

Now we are going to make the retro rose!

1. You will need:

orange clay
pale brown clay
white clay
green clay
brown clay
and a rolling pin

2. Roll out your white clay, then roughly cut into a rectangle.

3. Do the same with your other colours then lay them onto of each other.

4. Cut from one corner to the other, then match up the two shortest edges.

5. Roll in the palm of your hand so that the colours swirl but you still have the stripy pattern, then press into your mould.

6. Carefully remove from the mould and poke out a small hole in the top of your rose to make it into a pendant, if you aren't making it into a pendant you can bake the clay in the mould.

Now you have a stylish retro rose!

Hello, again

Hi, I'm finally back WITH a project for you to try! I f you have been reading some of my older posts you will know that today is the start of the project a day campaign! If you'd like to get involved view the campaign page.

Now on with the project!

This is an easy and very basic project but gives you a great way to store your bracelets without just throwing them in your draw!

What you will need

toilet roll tube
card or paper
glue, I use a glue tape pen for simplicity

These are all illustrated below, as well as the finished product!

Now as I said this project is super simple and so only requires three steps! Yes, three steps!

So here we go

Step 1  Measure the length of your toilet roll tube, mine was 10.5cm.

Step 2  Cut the card to the same width as the length of your toilet roll tube. ( cut it so that it is wide enough to cover your tube ) Don't worry about the length of the card/paper.

Step 3  Add some glue to the card/paper and stick it onto the tube, smooth it down as you wrap the card/paper around the tube, if there is any excess card/paper overlap it. As you can see from the images above I overlapped mine slightly on the edge, this ensured that the tube edge was well hidden!

Another variation

You could stick a circle onto the base of the decorated tube and stand it up, it could then be used to hold your bracelets on the outside and pens on the inside!
